Song of the day: The Donays - Devil In His Heart, from Soul Sides.
Bonus beat: Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream, which raises the question: who is making the best neo-80s music? There are so many good contenders, but I would vote The Knife.

The Metropolitan.

Perfect.

Some paintings never get old.

Unbelievably modern portrait of Michelangelo by a contemporary. It looks like it was painted 300 years later. Jacopino del Conte, respect.

If I described the Wang Hui show, I would sound hyperbolic. Incidentally, the calligraphy in the margins of the paintings are very beautiful, and so neat as to look like a font.

The week that everything went Wack-a-doodle.

Bringing to an end a year with Swollen Apprentices.

Brain confused when it has more than one problem.

Goodbye, my concubine. Goodbye, my Beautiful Launderette.

The title of a Grace Paley collection keeps going through my head.

Going to Montevideo and California for a week each in early November. If you know why... this might explain. One of each, please.

Song of the day: Squarepusher - Central Line.
Song of the day: High Places - Greeting The Light. The whole High Places album is quite good.

Song of the day: Peter Bjorn & John - Let's Call It Off (Girl Talk Remix).

A Taiwanese software engineer named 砂井裏鍵 (aka Romulus 仲明) ported an open source project of mine (MyID3) to the Android platform. myid3-for-android

Went to get a haircut. The guy waiting started talking about how one of his girlfriends went through his phone the other day and found the number of another of his girlfriends. She called her, and they talked. His take was: with the economy in this state, neither girlfriend would dare to give him trouble about the other. Also: he doesn't know what they talked about and he doesn't plan to ask.

this page has lots of great links about the fiscal crisis.

Smoked a Cohiba with my father last night. We walked to the lake in the moonlight and listened to music from a wedding while sitting on a big rock.

"Whenever you finding yourself thinking that your situation is unique, it helps to realize that whatever you're feeling or going through is probably a common experience."
The "Rich Holden Rule", as cited by my dad.
